A novel method synthesizes diverse tetra-substituted olefins from iodonium ylides and thioesters, suggesting new pathways for chemical reactions.
Reaction of iodonium ylides and thioesters/thioketones in dichloromethane was stirred for a quicker reaction time at room temperature in the absence of metal catalyst or additive to furnish symmetrical/unsymmetrical tetra‐substituted olefins in good yield. The novel strategy allows access to a new class of structurally diverse olefination under an open‐air atmosphere, and the gram‐scale synthesis was also studied.
