Experimental and numerical study reveals velocity fluctuations in liquid metal flow, indicating significant effects of electromagnetic forces.
An experimental and numerical study is performed on the fluctuations of a liquid metal flow under the action of electromagnetic forces in a closed volume. The flow is unsteady in the range of considered dimensionless parameters. The region of a solenoid exhibits the most pronounced velocity fluctuations. The amplitude and range of the fluctuations grow along with the Hartmann number.
