A mathematical model demonstrates tumor response to chemotherapy, suggesting effective treatment strategies.
Chemotherapy acts on tumor evolution through cytotoxic mechanisms that reduce the viable malignantpopulation in a drug-dependent manner. In this work, a mathematical model is proposed in whichtumor growth follows a logistic law and chemotherapy induces a cell death term proportional to drugconcentration and tumor burden. A second equation is used to describe the temporal decay of drugconcentration. Analytical expressions are obtained for the pharmacological compartment and for alinearized tumor approximation. The model illustrates how coupled ordinary differential equations canrepresent the interaction between intrinsic growth and treatment-mediated cell killing in a simple andinterpretable way.
