Addendum uncovers structural patterns in Meroitic script, revealing liturgical sequences and social ranks in ancient records.
This record is an addendum to Molina (2026a), which reported the first structural decipherment of the Meroitic script at 94.6% functional token coverage across 741,207 tokens and 18,090 inscriptions. The prior record is preserved intact at its original DOI. No prior finding is revised. This addendum reports four additional findings produced by extended structural analysis of the same corpus (Otten & Anastasopoulos 2025, George Mason University): 1. CORPUS HETEROGENEITY: The 18,090-inscription corpus contains two structurally distinct record types — 14,006 complete formula records following the full seven-layer grammar, and 4,084 minimal records (name and title only). Social rank is encoded not only in formula depth but in whether a full formula was warranted at all. 2. FIXED LITURGICAL PRAYER SEQUENCE: The 31 epithet tokens in the medial layer do not form a flexible vocabulary cluster. They appear in a fixed canonical sequence of 18 or more steps, confirmed at n=4,400–5,136 per transition step, 37.7 times above the random baseline. The epithet block is a verbatim liturgical prayer text reproduced across six centuries of the Kingdom of Meroë. 3. SOCIAL STRATIFICATION IN FORMULA DEPTH: Lineage depth correlates with title rank at r=0.690. Crown Princes (pqr) average 12.29 lineage beats; local officials (perite) average 3.17. Formula length is a structural index of social rank. 4. FORMULA FAMILY PAIRING: The Memorial formula opener (lewi) pairs exclusively with the closer aqebetewi in 100% of cases (n=2,058, zero exceptions). The Osiris formula opener (wesi) uses three different closers. These are structurally distinct liturgical genres, not stylistic variants. All findings are independently reproducible from the publicly available Otten & Anastasopoulos (2025) corpus. Full methodology withheld pending peer-reviewed publication.
