A case report reveals cannabis-induced symptoms in a child after consuming edible gummies, suggesting increased awareness is needed.
With the legalization of cannabis in Germany since April 2024, unintentional exposure to cannabis products in children is increasingly relevant. We report on a 5‐year‐old female patient who presented to the emergency department with central nervous symptoms (somnolence, hallucinations, myoclonus) after consumption of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)‐containing gummy bears. A rapid drug test was positive for THC, and the suspicion that the patient had consumed an edible product could ultimately be confirmed after a comprehensive and repeated investigation of the background history. The patient was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit.
