Marine macroalgae are an important source of bioactive compounds with potential benefits for skin health.This study evaluated the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-wrinkle-related activities of fermented extracts from Ulva pertusa (UP) and Sargassum horneri (SH) to assess their potential as functional ingredients for skin health applications.Antioxidant activity was determined using a 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay, while anti-inflammatory and skin-protective effects were evaluated in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages and HS68 human dermal fibroblasts.UP and SH exhibited weak DPPH radical scavenging activity compared with ascorbic acid, indicating limited direct radical-scavenging capacity.However, both extracts significantly suppressed LPS-induced nitric oxide and pro-inflammatory cytokine production (tumor necrosis factor-, interleukin IL-1, and IL-6) in RAW264.7 cells, with SH showing stronger inhibitory effects at lower concentrations.In HS68 fibroblasts, both extracts enhanced cell viability and collagen synthesis while inhibiting collagenase activity in a concentration-dependent manner, with SH generally demonstrating greater efficacy than UP.A 1:1 combination of UP and SH produced anti-inflammatory and anti-wrinkle-related effects comparable to those of SH alone, without evidence of synergistic enhancement.Overall, these findings suggest that fermented extracts of UP and SH, particularly SH, may serve as promising natural functional ingredients for applications in health functional foods, nutraceuticals, and biomaterials aimed at promoting skin health.
