Analysis reveals important factors for sustainable regional economic systems, suggesting policy implications for local governments.
This paper discusses how local economic and non-economic activities beyond the scope of the market mechanism can be operated sustainably. We first describe the background of a sustainable regional system by introducing the established literature that is relevant to this study. We then provide a formal representation to detect some important factors for a sustainable regional economic system within the framework of location theory. Finally, we suggest policy implications for local governmentsʼ urban and regional planning from the standpoint of wellbeing and quality of life.
