A polyaromatic dumbbell-based micelle capable of binding large dyes under organic solvent-rich conditions

LCLorenzo CattiASAguri SugawaraKTKazuki Toyama

Key Points

  • The research investigates the dye-binding capabilities of a dumbbell-shaped amphiphile in organic solvents.
  • Synthesis of a dumbbell-shaped amphiphile
  • Formation of polyaromatic micelles in water
  • Evaluation of dye binding under different solvent conditions
  • Micelles formed have high stability against organic solvent addition
  • Binding occurs with both organic and metal-organic dyes
  • Stability observed up to 75% organic solvent volume

Abstract

A dumbbell-shaped amphiphile assembles into a spherical polyaromatic micelle in water. Binding of organic and metal–organic dyes by the micelle yields host–guest composites with very high stability against organic solvent addition (up to 75% v/v).
