This project develops a device to measure rocket body attitude and potential difference post-mission, suggesting improvements for debris removal.
The upper stage of rocket on heavy traffic orbit is possible target for the active debris removal. To design the active debris removal satellite the attitude of rocket body is important parameter. In addition, the spacecraft charging due to space plasma generates the potential difference between the rocket body and the satellite. The potential difference potentially causes the discharge at the moment of capture. Because we have no information about the attitude and potential difference in the orbit, JAXA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. develops the instrument to measure the attitude and potential of rocket body after finishing the mission of rocket. The instrument should be simple to equipes with the rocket bodies continuously. Therefore, the instruments consist of few sensors (the attitude sensor and potential sensor) and primary battery unit and communication module. In this presentation, the latest situation of the instrument will be introduced.
