Experimental analysis shows spermidine inhibits actomyosin interactions, suggesting direct effects of the compound.
The inhibitory action of spermidine aliphatic polyamine, on myosin B was studied in relation to the ionic strength. On the basis of this result, it was concluded that the inhibitory action of spermidine on the actomyosin system is not due to the increase of ionic strength of reaction medium which is caused by addition of the agent, but to the direct action of spermidine itself on the actomyosin system.
