Innovative 3D printing of vascular models aids surgical planning and recognition of anomalies in patients.
For corrective surgery of lung cancer with a vascular abnormality, three-dimensional (3D) reconstructive computed tomography images are useful. Although abnormal vascular branching can be recognized on a flat monitor, it is difficult to maneuver the abnormal branching during the surgery in the real-world setting. In the recent era, some studies have indicated that the 3D-printed models made by 3D printers for professional use are helpful for surgical simulation. In this study, we generated a 3D vascular model of abnormal pulmonary venous branching using a 3D printer for a private user. Even with a 3D printer of a consumer model, the printed 3D model was useful for simulation and recognition of a vascular abnormality.
