Quantitative analysis reveals attachment style and empathy affect relationship satisfaction among dating couples, suggesting areas for improvement.
Romantic relationships are important for emotional and psychological well-being. They can often enhance happiness and relive distress. Among dating couples, attachment style and empathy are important factors influencing relationships. This study will include these dating couples as the target population and investigates the influence of attachment style and empathy on romantic relationship. Here attachment style refers to the bond individuals develop with their partner. In most of the research these styles are defined as secure, anxious, or avoidant. Empathy also has been defined in many ways but here it will be understood as the ability to identify with and understand somebody else’s feelings. The study will take a quantitative approach of research. Standardized psychological instruments such as the Attachment Scale and the Empathy Assessment Scale for example, and scales assessing romantic relationships will be used. The data will be analysed in a statistical program such as JASP or software with appropriate codes. We expect that those with secure attachment styles and high levels of empathy will report better romantic relationship satisfaction, communication and emotional closeness, low rise of relationship problems. Conversely, anxious and avoidant attachment styles are expected to be associated with poorer quality relationships. Findings can contribute to our understanding of how emotional and interpersonal factors interrelate in romantic relationships
