This thesis examines non-selected argument constructions in Mandarin Chinese, suggesting revisions and new classifications.
This thesis explores non-selected argument (also known as non-core argument, applied argument, applicative argument) constructions in Mandarin Chinese.By reviewing previous studies on non-selected argument constructions of the languages in the world, this thesis applies to Mandarin non-selected argument constructions a previous analysis that has not yet been applied.Based on previous analyses, new types of Mandarin non-selected arguments are defined, previous analyses of Mandarin non-selected arguments are revised, and a revised version of topography under the Cartography Approach is provided. With a focus on Mandarin Chinese, this thesis also broadens the descriptive base for a comparative analysis of non-selected argument constructions, and human languages in general.
