Design reports continuous focal length tuning and high imaging resolution in liquid lenses, suggesting significant optical improvements.
• 1.A seven-ring planar electrode enables aspherical double-liquid lens actuation. • 2.COMSOL-MATLAB-Zemax co-simulation optimizes electrode design and performance. • 3.Focal length tunable from 95.3 mm to 43.4 mm (0–270 V), zoom ratio 2.198. • 4.Maximum imaging resolution reaches 80.635 lp/mm at 240 V. • 5.Aspheric design effectively reduces aberrations, outperforming spherical lens. To enhance the imaging quality of liquid lenses, an aspherical double-liquid lens based on a seven-ring patterned planar electrode is designed and analyzed in this paper. Modeling and simulations are conducted using COMSOL, MATLAB, and Zemax, and experimental devices are fabricated for validation. The results demonstrate that under a driving voltage ranging from 0 V to 270 V, the focal length of the lens varies continuously from 95.3044 mm to 43.3681 mm, achieving a zoom ratio of 2.198. At 240 V, the imaging resolution reaches 80.635 lp/mm. The proposed liquid lens exhibits advantages such as a simple structure, ease of fabrication, a wide zoom range and high imaging quality, making it highly promising for applications in next-generation compact optoelectronic systems, including miniaturized imaging, intelligent sensing and advanced displays.
