Examines fabric's effect on strength and impact resistance in fiberglass composites, indicating complex relationships.
A comprehensive study was conducted to examine the influence of the areal density of fabric on the strength and impact resistance of glass fiber-reinforced plastics. It was shown that with increasing the areal density, the tensile and flexural modulus of fiberglass composites increases, as well the specific modulus. A more complex relationship between the tensile and flexural strength of glass fiber-reinforced plastics and the areal density of fabric was revealed. The deformation of composite plates with varying reinforcing fabric thicknesses under impact loading was analyzed using the ANSYS software package. High convergence of the modeling results with experimental data was demonstrated.
