Explores eccentricity reduction methods for optimizing funicular shells to minimize bending moments, indicating its effectiveness for rational shell design.
Funicular shells minimize bending moments under self-weight and are common in rational shell design. A previous study introduced the eccentricity reduction method, adjusting nodes based on membrane forces and bending moments. This study explores three ways to calculate eccentric distance on multiaxial stress fields: (A) along principal bending moment, (B) along maximum eccentricity, and (C) based on mean stress. Results show that method C is most effective for form-finding. Numerical examples confirm the validity of this approach.
