Preliminary study assesses humoral immunity in cattle vaccinated with inactivated or live attenuated vaccines, suggesting effective responses.
The control of Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is often hampered by adverse effects associated with currently available live attenuated vaccines (LAVs). This preliminary study was therefore designed to determine the immune responses in dairy cattle immunized with either an inactivated LSD vaccine (derived from a local strain) or a commercial LAV. Specifically, five cattle received an inactivated vaccine, and five received a commercial LAV. Humoral immunity was assessed: ELISA titers persisted for over six months in both groups. Furthermore, the virus neutralization test showed no statistical difference in the neutralizing antibody titers between the two groups. These findings confirm that the inactivated vaccine effectively elicited the humoral immune responses and highlight its potential as a promising tool for LSD prevention.
