Experiments evaluate fire resistance in steel columns, indicating implications for structural safety design.
This study conducted axially loaded compression experiments using an equal angle steel column with large slenderness ratio at elevated temperatures to evaluate the flexural buckling behavior and load-bearing capacity. Steady-state, transient-state, and thermal stress tests at elevated temperatures were performed for the column specimen. The evaluation formulas on the flexural buckling strength and collapse temperature for the heated equal angle steel column were proposed, and it was clarified that those can be used at the practical fire resistance design.
