Does depression increase the risk of incident cardiovascular disease in individuals with chronic kidney disease?
Depression is independently associated with a 36% increased risk of incident cardiovascular disease among individuals with chronic kidney disease, regardless of baseline kidney function.
Background: Depression is common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and known to be associated with a greater risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, it is uncertain whether, and to what extent, depression influences the incidence of CVD among individuals with CKD.
