Analysis reveals how combined pile testing enhances capacity assessment and engineering decisions.
This paper examines the interrelationship between pile integrity testing and static pile load testing through the analysis of three representative case studies from engineering practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the limitations of pile integrity testing as a non-destructive method and on the importance of proper interpretation of results with respect to geological conditions and construction technology. The presented case studies demonstrate that pile integrity test results, when considered in isolation, may lead to misleading conclusions regarding pile condition, whereas their integration with static load test results enables a more reliable assessment of pile capacity and load-settlement behavior. Furthermore, the study shows that certain phenomena observed during static load testing can be effectively explained by the interpretation of pile integrity test results, highlighting the complementary nature of these methods. The findings confirm the necessity of an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to pile quality control, including an adequate number and scope of tests, in order to reduce uncertainty, optimize design solutions, and support sound engineering decision-making.
