Research explores the historical context of Banteay Kdei, linking it to Khmer kings and Buddhist heritage.
What is the Banteay Kdei Monument?lt has long been believed that the Banteay Kdei Temple is the same sanctuary as the one referred to as the "Oriental Buddha" in an inscription. In reality, however, it seems more reasonable to regard this "Oriental Buddha" as an architectural monument in Kompong Svay, such as Prah Khan or Ben Mealea.Unlike the Ta Prohm or Prah Khan Monuments, important inscriptions have never been found at Banteay Kdei, and this has intensified the mystery surrounding it.Judging from its size, the architectural monument appears to have enjoyed historic ties with successive Khmer kings.
