This short communication investigates pressure drop in Komax static mixers under turbulent flow conditions, suggesting improved efficiency over other designs.
Static mixers are widely used in numerous industrial processes where efficient mixing is required. For design and scale‐up, it is essential to be able to accurately predict hydraulic performance, particularly pressure drop. In this short communication, experimental measurements were conducted using Komax static mixers installed in a horizontal pipe with an inner diameter of 40 mm under turbulent flow conditions. Configurations with 2, 3, 4, and 6 mixing elements were investigated. The results indicate that the z ‐factor decreases as the number of elements increases. An empirical correlation was developed to predict the z ‐factor as a function of the Reynolds number and the number of elements. A comparison with literature data demonstrates that Komax mixers generate lower pressure drops than other static mixer designs, such as Koflo and Lightnin.
