ABSTRACT Surface functionalization is a powerful strategy for enhancing the properties of nanoparticles for specific applications. This study synthesizes sodium dodecyl sulfate‐capped cerium oxide nanoparticles (Ce‐SDS) to improve their antimicrobial efficacy. The successful functionalization and physicochemical properties of the Ce‐SDS nanoparticles were confirmed through comprehensive characterization (XRD, FESEM, TEM, FTIR, TGA, BET). The SDS capping yielded well‐dispersed, spherical nanoparticles with high surface area and a negative zeta potential. Antimicrobial assays demonstrated that the Ce‐SDS exhibited significantly enhanced activity against both Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria compared to unmodified counterparts. The improved performance is attributed to the surfactant‐driven modulation of surface properties, which promotes better interaction with microbial membranes.
