Research demonstrates marine biodegradation of polyamide 4 in seawater, indicating bacterial impact on breakdown.
Polyamide 4(PA4)has a higher melting temperature and excellent tensile strengths than those of PA6. PA4 can be easily synthesized from L-glutamic acid by way of a lactam. PA4 is biodegraded by activated sludge, in soil and in seawater. As for marine biodegradation, BOD biodegradation test and immersion test in real sea field were explained. The most important factor effected on biodegradation is bacterial flora and population.
