Why the study?
Is admission serum potassium level associated with in-hospital and long-term mortality or ventricular arrhythmias in patients with STEMI?
Is admission serum potassium level associated with in-hospital and long-term mortality or ventricular arrhythmias in patients with STEMI?
Abnormal admission serum potassium levels are associated with increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias and long-term mortality in patients presenting with STEMI.
Should not yet alter potassium targets in STEMI; leaves open whether correction reduces arrhythmias or mortality.
Admission sK level of >4.5 mmol/L was associated with increased long-term mortality in STEMI. A significant relation was found between sK level of <3 mmol/L and ≥5 mmol/L and ventricular arrhythmias.
