Demonstrates ionic liquid modification enhances polar phase control in PVDF using Ti3C2Tx MXene, suggesting improved material performance.
As a novel two‐dimensional transition metal carbide, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene demonstrates exceptional characteristics including high specific surface area, excellent electrical conductivity, and favorable mechanical properties, endowing it with broad application prospects in functional materials. In this study, the ion exchange reactions between lithium ions in Ti 3 C 2 T x interlayer and unsaturated imidazolium cations were carried out for chemical modification of MXene. The influence of ionic liquids structure on the intercalation behavior has been investigated systematically for the precise control of the interlayer structure and properties of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene materials. Furthermore, electron beam (EB) irradiation was utilized to achieve in situ grafting of intercalated ionic liquids within Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene interlayers, thereby enabling effective surface modification of MXene nanosheets. The effects of key parameters (ionic liquid structure, irradiation conditions, irradiation dose, etc.) on interlayer characteristics and in situ grafting reactions have been explored which ultimately established a robust methodology for preparing ionic liquid‐modified MXene nanosheets. Interestingly, the IL‐modified MXene exhibited higher efficiency in inducing polar crystal structures in polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nonwovens compared with neat MXene. The findings pave the way for novel strategies in surface/interface engineering of Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets and their application in polymer nanocomposites.
