Key Points

  • The research aims to investigate the relationship between hyperglycemia during acute pancreatitis and the development of early-onset diabetes post-recovery.
  • Analyzed hyperglycemia prevalence in individuals without diabetes during acute pancreatitis.
  • Compared diabetes risk between those with and without hyperglycemia post-acute pancreatitis.
  • Monitored glycemia levels to assess risk factors for early diabetes onset.
  • Individuals with hyperglycemia during acute pancreatitis have a high risk of developing early-onset diabetes.
  • Those without hyperglycemia display a low risk of diabetes in the short term.
  • Monitoring glycemia can help identify individuals in need of targeted diabetes care after discharge.

Abstract

HDAP can be common in individuals without diabetes and is associated with early-onset diabetes following AP. Individuals without HDAP have a low risk of diabetes short term, while those with HDAP200 are at high risk. Monitoring glycemia during AP can identify individuals best suited for early targeted postdischarge care.
