Does provocation of an autoimmune response to cardiac troponin I induce myocardial inflammation and heart failure in mice?
This study provides the first evidence that an autoimmune response to cardiac troponin I, but not troponin T, induces severe myocardial inflammation, fibrosis, heart failure, and mortality in a mouse model.
Overall, our results show for the first time that provocation of an autoimmune response to mc-TnI induces severe inflammation in the myocardium followed by fibrosis and heart failure with increased mortality in mice.
