Occasionally as scientists we have the good fortune to stumble problems whose significance and solution turn out to be more -reaching than may have been anticipated at the time. Such to be the case in my own experience with unimolecular electron-transfer reactions and, to a lesser degree, with a few problems as well. I am particularly indebted to the organizers this issue for their recognition of 35 years of “RRKM” and 30 years of the electron-transfer theory. Also, I am indebted to my many colleagues who have contributed the field and to this issue.
