Prevalence and risk factors of asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis
Significant asymptomatic extracranial carotid artery disease is present in 5.2% of an Indian population over 40 years old, highlighting the impact of multiple vascular risk factors.
Our study suggests that 5.2% of asymptomatic individuals > 40 years of age harbor significant extracranial carotid artery disease. Presence of multiple vascular risk factors markedly increases the risk of carotid stenosis.
