The polarized Raman spectra of the single-crystalline Cs2[ZnCl4] in the frequency region Δν=0–350 cm−1 at room temperature, and the Raman spectra of the polycrystalline Cs2[ZnCl4] in the same frequency region at 293, 80, and 36 K have been measured. A complete analysis of the spectra in both the metal–ligand optical modes and the lattice optical modes regions has been made; and the distortion of the [ZnCl4]2− ions in the crystal has been discussed on the basis of the present results.
