Abstract

The rapid escalation of renewable energy deployment worldwide has intensified the demand for advanced, reliable, and cost-effective energy storage solutions. Conventional lithium-ion batteries, while commercially dominant, face significant limitations in terms of energy density, cycle life, safety, and raw material sustainability that constrain their applicability for large-scale grid integration. This research paper provides a comprehensive review of next-generation battery storage technologies including solid-state batteries, flow batteries, sodium-ion batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, and metal-air systems and evaluates their technical readiness, economic viability, and suitability for modern renewable energy grids.
