Recent excavations have added to understanding of the development of medieval Trelech, in particular with respect to the road pattern associated with the town. The road system consisted of at least three north--south roads with two passing on either side of the central core defined by the church and the motte and bailey castle. Excavations on the castle site suggest a sequence of development for both the town and the associated road system.
