This study analyses the bending of helicoidal laminated composite plates, inspired by biological helicoids. The analysis employed Navier solution-based shear deformation theory. Five helicoidal schemes—recursive, exponential, semi-circular, linear, and Fibonacci—were studied. Plate thickness stress distribution investigations have been done. The helicoidal distribution parameter greatly affects stress variation. Helicoidal designs have homogeneous stress distribution across the thickness of the plate, unlike quasi-isotropic schemes. Helicoidal lamination designs also eliminate stress channeling caused by cross-ply and quasi-isotropic systems. Also, the helicoidal schemes exhibited the lowest value for the transverse shear stresses (σ¯yz).
