A new class of DNA-intercalating platinum(II) complexes has been developed. Their spectroscopic properties, interactions with DNA, and cytotoxicities were studied. [Pt(dppz)(tNC)]CF3SO3 interacts with DNA through intercalation. An emission at 650 nm was observed and ascribed to exciplex formation between the DNA base pair and [Pt(dppz)(tNC)]+ in the excited state.
