ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to improve our understanding of social support‐ and family‐related dynamics and outcomes in a large sample of young people with a history of homelessness in Canada. The analysis used survey data from 934 people aged 16–24. Linear and logistic regression were used. The majority of the young people felt supported by friends and stable adults. The majority also sought improved relationships with family, with many having already started that work. There was a positive association between contact with family and wellbeing. However, a proportion of young people indicated a lack of support, and 30% reported having no interest in improving relationships with family. The findings provide support for initiatives aimed at cultivating the support networks of young people, but the findings also underscore the complexity of family and social support dynamics for young people with a history of homelessness.
