Why the study?
Card-programmable calculators can make patient monitoring data more useful by reducing the time and errors associated with repetitive manual calculations.
A programmable calculator can automate the computation of cardiorespiratory variables, reducing manual calculation time and errors in patient monitoring.
Facilitates bedside clinical decisions with reliable metrics; extends precision for cardiorespiratory research.
Today's card-programmable calculators are able to process a wide variety of complex data with alpha-numeric printouts of results. These devices' features can make the information gathered from patient monitoring more useful by reducing the time and errors associated with repetitive manual calculations. This paper reports an interactive program that prompts the user to input data and then prints out a list of derived cardiorespiratory variables.
