Absolute gray matter lCMRGlc measured 13 to 25 mumol/min/100 gm at birth, rose to adult values of 19 to 33 mumol/min/100 gm by 2 years, and peaked at 49 to 65 mumol/min/100 gm by 3 to 4 years.
Elevated metabolic rates persisted until roughly 9 years before declining back to adult baseline levels during the late second decade, with the largest increases occurring in cerebral cortical structures.
