Contemporary volleyball requires a high level of physical, technical and tactical training and psychic stability from athletes, which is particularly important under extreme conditions of competitions. A high level of intensity of sports contest exerts an inadequate influence on athletes’ mental state. In its turn, the reliability and stability of performance of technical-tactical actions depends on the psychic stability of players. For this reason, in analyzing the competition activity of volleyball players, it is necessary to take into account the psychic tension of athletes during the competition. We have developed a special methodology for determining the competition (psychic) tension in volleyball. The studies we have conducted have confirmed that psychic tension during a volleyball game exerts a direct influence on the qualitative and quantitative indicators of competition activity.
