This paper critically examines Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of Ahimsa with particular reference to his autobiography, The Story of My Experiments with Truth. It argues that Gandhi’s concept of non-violence extends beyond the absence of physical harm to encompass a broader ethical and spiritual framework grounded in truth, love, and self-discipline. The study highlights his integration of religion and politics, where religion signifies universal moral values rather than sectarian beliefs. The paper further analyzes Gandhi’s critique of power-driven modern politics and his advocacy of an ethical polity centered on human welfare and non-violent means. It concludes that Gandhi’s philosophy of Ahimsa provides a significant moral framework for rethinking politics, despite challenges to its practical application in contemporary contexts.
