Formulæ are derived for the first and second natural frequencies of a part or a circular ring, hinged or clamped at its ends. It is shown that the type of vibration, in which extension of the fibres occurs, under certain conditions may have a lower natural frequency than any non-extensional extensional type of vibration. The results are given in the form of curves and tables.
