An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on behalf of Thame Homes Ltd, on land to the south of Church Lane, Middleton, Warwickshire, ahead of the development of six dwellings. The work was carried out in accordance with The Chartered Institute for Archaeologists Standard for archaeological field evaluation. Seven trial trenches were excavated, and archaeological features were encountered in three trenches in the northern half of the site. A single medieval feature was identified. This was a gully in the trench adjacent to the modern road at the northern edge of the site which contained sherds of mid to late 13th century pottery. However, an undated pit to the south contained an assemblage of charred plant remains. This and an adjacent undated gully may therefore be contemporary with the medieval gully to the north. A boundary ditch and pond depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey of 1889 were examined in Trench 3 in the central part of the site and a 19th century pit was recorded adjacent to the road. No significant features were evident in the southern part of the site.
