An early report on clinical use of vitamin C, historically interesting. #### SUMMMARY1. Vitamin C, 500 mg. for a patient of average weight, if given orally within the hour before operation,materially decreases traumatic shock as shown by much clinical evidence.2. In the minor surgery of teeth extraction, oral administration of 500 mg. of vitamin C within the hourbefore operation is remarkably successful in preventing shock or postoperative weakness.3. Immediate administration of 500 mg. or more of vitamin C to 35 assorted cases of accidents at coalmines seemed to increase shock resistance and to improve the condition of the patients upon arrivalat a distant hospital.
