An archaeological evaluation records field boundaries and features in Kilsby, suggesting historical land use patterns.
An archaeological evaluation consisting of 32 50m trial trenches was undertaken at land off Rugby Road, Hillmorton, Rugby. The work was carried out in accordance with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists Standard for Archaeological Field Evaluation (2023) Following a previous Desk-Based Heritage Assessment and geophysical survey a trial trenching programme of 32 50m trenches was undertaken. The trenching confirmed the results of the geophysical survey recording ridge and furrow across the site, the angles suggestive of four separate fields. Other features identified on the site included a late post-medieval/modern field boundary which may be associated with a boundary on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map. A second shallow ditch or hedgerow for which no parallel on historic maps or aerial photographs can be found and a single undated pit.
