From a thermodynamical point of view, hydrostatic pressure should increase the interaction between dislocations. It has been used to explain their annihilation or removal from a crystal. In this paper it is shown that the pressure-induced increase of crystal lattice friction impeding dislocation movement (Peierls stress) completely compensates for the increase of interaction between dislocations, even for soft crystals. Numerical results for a number of crystals are given.
