Watching brief was carried out along sections of open cut pipeline for a water mains renewal. Walkover survey was also carried out over backfilled pipeline trenches. A small test pit was excavated through an area of exposed archaeological material truncated by the pipeline route. In one area near Cuinabunag, to the SE of Stinky Bay at NF 76380 52187, a test pit revealed at least 5 stratified archaeological layers, including remains of possible stone structural material, charcoal, shell and animal bone. This location had been exposed by the pipeline trench excavation and suggests that more extensive, multiperiod early medieval/prehistoric remains are present in this location.
