Experimentally evaluates corrosion resistance in carbide steel composites, indicating adaptation possibilities for various applications.
Corrosion properties of 3D-12Kh18N10T-(WC/Ni) carbide steel produced by selective laser melting of steel powder and tungsten carbide powder mixture are studied. The WC powder has been preliminarily clad with nickel by means of gas transport technique. The samples of the studied composite differ in the content of tungsten carbide. It has been found that, despite the introduction of up to 20 wt % tungsten carbide into the alloy leads to an increase in the corrosion current as to compare to the alloys that do not contain carbide, the material remains corrosion-resistant. The alloy exhibits a high resistance level with respect to acidic solutions. In oxygen-containing acids such as H2SO4 and HNO3, the metal surface undergoes passivation.
