This analysis uncovers the link between gender equality and sustainable development, suggesting the need for deeper policy interventions in India.
Women’s empowerment is widely recognized as a critical determinant of sustainable development, encompassing social, economic, political, cultural, and health dimensions. This paper examines the intrinsic link between gender equality and sustainable development, with a particular focus on India. Drawing upon global frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda and established scholarly literature, the study argues that structural inequalities continue to constrain women’s agency despite formal policy advancements. The paper highlights that sustainable development cannot be achieved without addressing gender-based disparities in access to resources, decision-making, and opportunities.
