Key Points

  • The aim is to understand the challenges in deceased donor liver utilisation for transplantation in Australia.
  • Analysis of in-network and out-of-network referral volumes since 2014.
  • Assessment of graft utilisation rates among out-of-network referrals.
  • In-network referral volume has not changed since 2014.
  • Out-of-network referral volume is increasing but with reduced graft utilisation.

Abstract

Utilisation of in-network referrals has remained unchanged since 2014. Out-of-network referral volume is increasing, with reduced utilisation of grafts amongst this cohort. Techniques to improve organ utilisation will be critical to expand access to LT in Australia.
