ITEP aims to enhance teacher training in India, suggesting a shift towards modern educational practices.
ITEP stands for Integrated Teacher Education Programme, a pioneering initiative introduced by the Ministry of Education to provide comprehensive and structured training for aspiring teachers in India. This flagship programme of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is firmly grounded in the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The ITEP features an interdisciplinary curriculum that ensures learners receive a broad-based education across diverse domains such as assessment practices, curriculum planning, educational psychology, and child development. The programme also integrates technology into the teaching–learning process, enabling future educators to effectively use digital tools and remain aligned with the latest advancements in instructional technology. Further, the ITEP emphasizes modern pedagogical approaches, foundational literacy and numeracy, early childhood care and education, inclusive education, and an understanding of India’s values, culture, art, and traditions. Graduates of this programme will be equipped with 21st-century global competencies, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to the vision of a New India. Additionally, by completing the degree in four years instead of five, students benefit from saving one academic year.
